A final step on the Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation between Iran and India

“A final step on the Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation between Iran and India”, was stressed upon during the meeting between INTA President and Indian Ambassador to Tehran.

During the meeting between the President of Iranian National Tax Administration (INTA)and the Ambassador of Republic of India, the two sides stressed on the necessity for the conclusion of the “Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation”between the two countries and its ratification by the legislative bodies as soon as possible.

According to Iran’s Tax Media report, the INTA President in his meeting with the Indian Ambassador,Mr. Ghadam Dermandra, on Tuesday, February 20, 2020 said that “Iran’s tax system has taken effective steps in recent years to implement electronic taxation throughout the country, and efforts will be continued for the implementation of a smart tax system through having access to all taxpayers’ data and information held by different agencies/bodies”.

Dr. Omid Ali Parsa added that the bill on “Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Tax Evasion” between Iran and India was approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly in January 2020,however, the Guardian Council asked for a few minor revisions in the form not the substance of the Persian text, moved on to say that, ”We do hope to have it approved in the early next year following the removal of the ambiguities and objections”.

He also added,”The enforcement of this Agreement will result in the promotion of economic relations and trade exchanges between the two countries whereby businessmen and merchants of the two countries will trade in an ideal situation”.

Dr. Parsa also pointed to the upcoming enforcement of the Act on the Installation, Setting Up and Application of Point of Sales (POS) Terminals by Iranian businesses and hoped,“The enforcement of this Act will significantly help us with our modernization strategy and the realization of smart tax system in the country”.

Referring to the long-standing trade and economic relations between the two countries, the Indian ambassador also said, ”Iran is one of India’s invaluable trade partners and the final ratification of the Agreement for Avoidance of Double Taxation will develop further the economic relations between the two nations”.

Ghadam Dermandra added also that the bill on the “Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation” between Iran and India had already been approved by the Indian Parliament and hoped, “The entry into force of this Agreement, in addition to helping the prevention of tax evasion, will lead to the development of the air and maritime transportation industry and the promotion of the relations between the two countries”.
